Leiber's history with growth factors

Rooted in tradition and yet innovative for the future
Franz Leiber founded the “Brewers' Yeast Processing Company Franz Leiber & Co” on 6 March 1954 in Damme, Germany. Previously he had worked at his parents' agricultural trading company, I.F. Leiber, founded in 1798. Given this close relationship with agriculture and nutritional sciences that started in early childhood, he developed the idea of using the vitamin B complex from the, back then little researched, brewers' yeast for animal nutrition. As a pioneer in this field, he fought for the initially so-called “unknown growth factors”.

The breakthrough for the company and brewers' yeast in animal feed came in 1964 with the introduction of the patented gentle drying process. Supported by ongoing research into every aspect of the raw material, brewers' yeast became a recognised success factor in animal nutrition. The company’s headquarters was relocated to the production facility in Bramsche in 1989.

A new branch of the company was created with the brewers' yeast extraction plant in 1994, in which the highest quality yeast extracts are developed and produced in close collaboration with our customers. A spray tower facility was commissioned as an addition in 2010. To accommodate the constant further development of Leiber products and the rising number of employees, an additional office block was acquired in 2010 to expand laboratory capacity in terms of the research and development work. A second spray drying facility was taken into service in spring 2014 to meet the increasing demand for brewers' yeast products – in this case, for animal feed.

The ever-growing number of international sales partners has completed Leiber’s brewers’ yeast network. Leiber has a global presence with its yeast products.

Using innovative biotechnological methods, Leiber has been processing the natural raw material brewers' yeast into high-quality special products, which are used today in the areas of food, animal nutrition, health and biotechnology, for more than 65 years.

With sites in Lower Saxony (Germany) and production facilities in Poland (2003) and Russia (2009), Leiber produces the highest quality brewers' yeast products with a 250-strong, committed workforce.
