A guarantee of quality for our raw material brewers' yeast since 1516

The first food law
The quality of food and raw materials was already an important topic when Duke Wilhelm IV signed the first food law in Ingolstadt on 23rd April 1516: The German Purity Law for beer! The law was enacted to make a safer and better quality beer and protect customers’ health. People all over the world trust in the German Purity Law as a promise of quality for beer. In Germany the law is still valid.

Only three main ingredients
The Purity Law allowed only three main ingredients for the production of beer: barley, hops and water. Yeast was added later as an ingredient after the discovery of its role in fermentation. No other ingredients were accepted for the production of beer. Due to the clear rules about the permitted ingredients, it was no longer possible to add toxic herbs during the production process or to use wheat, which was dedicated to bread production.

For our raw material brewers’ yeast, the Purity Law guarantees that it is only grown on natural substances and is of good quality.

Brewers’ yeast quality
The German Purity Law concerns the production of high quality beer that is free of additives. This is very important for our raw material brewers’ yeast, as its quality depends on the material on which it is grown. Thanks to the Purity Law, we can be sure that brewers’ yeast is only grown on natural substances, which is important for Leiber GmbH’s excellent yeast products.

Clean label since 1516
Clean label hasn’t just been a trend for a few years. Brewers’ yeast, which is grown in accordance with the German Purity Law, has been following the clean label trend since 1516. The current demand for natural and pure products without any additives shows that the German Purity Law with its content is still up to date – even after 500 years!

The purity of the brewing process ensures the purity of our brewers’ yeast products. This is important in enabling us to produce our high quality and excellent yeast products!

Since February 2016, Leiber GmbH has been reinforced by Dr med vet Claudia Westfahl - a veterinarian specialized in animal nutrition - as part of the company's strategy to invest in new product developments. With the new position ‘Product Development Animal Nutrition’, Dr. Westfahl is responsible for new product development in the field of functional feed ingredients for both pet as well as farm animals. After graduating at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover in 2005 she worked as a scientific employee at the Institute for Animal Nutrition.

Starting her industrial career in 2008 as a nutritionist for several brands in the international FMCG sector, she brings in eight years of expertise in commercial diet formulations for pet, fish & reptiles taking advantage from a solid educational background in animal nutrition, dietetics and science of feedstuffs including QM and regulatory knowledge.

At the beginning of this year Leiber’s business unit animal nutrition starts its international presence at 2 trade fairs. From 26th to 28th January MVC (Cereals - Mixed Feed - Veterinary) takes place in Moscow. MVC is one of the largest animal and livestock fair with over 400 exhibitors from 29 countries and many regions of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. The booth of the brewers’ yeast specialist is located in Hall A, Stand A 737.

For the first time Leiber takes part at the Ferma Fair - key trade fair for cattle, pig and poultry Producer in Poland from 19th to 21st February. Leibers stand will be in the MoSiR Hall, Stand M23. Ferma is the only on animal production spezialized trade fair in Poland and will be Held in Lodz.

Sales team at full strength again Sales team at full strength again
Leiber has recruited a new field service staffer for the animal feed business area. Effective immediately, Ms Daniela Marthold will support animal feed customers of Leiber in the sales region Germany South.

Ms Marthold already has plenty of industry-specific experience, and is therefore restoring the sales team in Germany to full strenght. After completing her agricultural studies majoring in livestock farming and in the field of productive livestock studies, she earned her doctorate in bovine reproductive biotechnology at the Georg-August-University in Goettingen. Afterwards she worked as an independent consultant in dairy cattle production- and management consulting. Her most recent position was that of a regional sales manager for calf feeding technologies, where she specialized in technical customer service and -consulting in the fields of keeping, rearing and feeding calves. Relevant experience as a bovine insemination technician completes her profile.

"With Daniela Marthold, we were able to recruit an experienced colleague with sales acumen, whom will support and counsel our customers and partners with relevant technological know-how", says Nikolaus Jungbluth, business unit director animal nutrition of Leiber GmbH.

Since the beginning of the year, Leiber GmbH has been setting up an energy management system. With the introduction of this system, the specialist in refining of brewers’ yeast has set itself the aim - in view of energy shortages and rising energy costs - of continuously improving energy performance and uncovering both major and minor ways of saving energy.

Lower energy costs, higher energy efficiency and reducing total energy consumption from an economic point of view have now been certified by the independent testing service provider TÜV Rheinland with the issuing of the official certificate. Previously, an auditor from TÜV Rheinland had analysed the processes on site for two weeks before issuing the certificate. The employees were also involved in this and were made aware of efficient energy use during cross-departmental training sessions.

Leiber has been committed to sustainable production for many years. The economical use of electricity and thermal energy is an integral component of Leiber's corporate strategy. With its own biogas plant and 2 micro gas turbines, the company produces about 35% of its electrical requirement and about 10% of the heat energy needed. In addition, the remaining 65% of electricity needs are covered entirely by renewable electricity from hydropower. The certificate in accordance with DIN EN ISO 50001:2012 now certifies that Leiber has efficient energy management and also makes a significant contribution to its international competitiveness.

By signing the distribution contract between Leiber GmbH and the company PHARMAQ AS, headquartered in Norway, Leiber GmbH teams up with a further distribution partner in the growing markets of aquaculture and expands its existing business activities.

PHARMAQ AS develops, produces and markets vaccines and health products for the global fish farming industry. The renowned "Nutrition Journal" published a review on Yestimun® Beta-Glucan. This mainly refers to the now seven published studies with Yestimun® Beta-Glucan.

The field immunity is gaining greater recognition worldwide, now there are already more than 6000 publications to Beta-Glucan. Nevertheless, published studies are rather rare if the focus is on yeast Beta-Glucan and strengthening the immune system when taken orally.

Subsidiary in Poland receives FSSC 22000 Certification Subsidiary in Poland receives FSSC 22000 Certification
Leiber Sp. z o.o., the Polish subsidiary of Leiber GmbH, has successfully completed the FSSC 22000 Food Safety System Certification process.

FSSC 22000, which is recognised internationally and also by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), was developed on the basis of the ISO 22000 Standard to define basic requirements for the certification of production processes within the food supply chain. Brewer’s yeast products are manufactured for the foodstuffs and animal feed sectors at the Polish plant.

The certification, which was awarded by Bureau Veritas, Poland will allow Leiber Sp. z o.o. to comply with the stringent requirements concerning food standards throughout the entire production chain and thereby to maintain constantly high product quality. In addition to its commendable manufacturing processes, storage, operating conditions and operating hygiene, Leiber GmbH has an impressive quality management system.
